The Ju-no-Kata, "Forms of Softness/Gentleness" consists of three series of 5 attacks and defenses without throwing. The Ju-no-Kata is a pure Kodokan Kata developed around 1887 and the techniques were selected for training in attack and defence and the efficient countering of your partner's force by gentle movement.
The study of the Ju-no-kata was according to Kano a study of the principles of judo, especially the principle of ju (yielding or gentleness). It's a slow motion "dancelike" kata that shows how one can use ones opponents attacks to gain superiority, all in the ways of ju. Since the forms incorporate various movements such as bending, stretching and twisting, they are very effective in conditioning the body and developing it all-round.
