PINNING TECHNIQUES

By pinning techniques Uke is controlled lying on his back on the mat. Well performed, it is hardly possible for Uke to escape from these techniques.

The score for a pinning technique, judged by a referee as oseakomi:

  • Ippon: holding for 25 seconds
  • Waza-ari: Minimal 20 seconds - maximal 25 seconds
  • Yuko: Minimal 15 seconds - maximal 20 seconds
  • Koka: Minimal 10 seconds - maximal 15 seconds

An osaekomi less than 10 seconds equals an attack.
